Biographical Information

Scott C. Smith received B.S. degrees (magna cum laude) in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering from the University of Missouri - Columbia in May 1996. He then co-oped with Motorola's Paging  Products Group in Boynton Beach, Florida from July-December 1996, where he helped develop the InfoFLEX protocol, which is used to broadcast and update information service messages for a large number of subscribed pagers, resulting in 3 U.S./international patents, and 2 additional international patents. He then pursued an M.S.E.E. degree, with an emphasis in Computers and Digital Systems, from the University of Missouri - Columbia, graduating in May 1998 with a 4.0 GPA, and a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, with an emphasis in Computer Architecture and Digital Systems, from the University of CentralFlorida, in Orlando, graduating in May 2001 with a 4.0 GPA.

He joined University of Missouri - Rolla (UMR) as an Assistant Professor in the Electrical & Computer Engineering department in August 2001, and was promoted to Associate Professor in March 2007 (to be effective startingAugust 2007). In August 2007, he joined the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, as an Associate Professor. Dr. Smith received Recognition of Teaching Excellencefrom the UMR Committee for Effective Teaching and Faculty Awards  for the 2002/2003 academic year, and was elected an IEEE Senior Member in 2006.
